Acropolis of Athens

Description

This special tour combines the visit of the main Jewish sites presenting the history of the Jewish community in Athens, with the sightseeing of the main city sites. Our tour starts with the visit of the naturally fortified hill of the Acropolis, the cornerstone of Athens existence. You will travel back in ancient times walking among the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the unique Parthenon & the Erechteion.

Your next visit will be to the Jewish Museum (founded in 1977) where you will be witnessed with material (among others clothing, artifacts & photos) showing the long history of the Jewish life in Athens, which dates back to 3rd century B.C. We continue with the two Synagogues. The older, Etz Hayyim Synagogue, which was founded in 1904 (it is used only during main holidays) & the newest, Beth Shalom Synagogue, which was founded in 1935 & renovated in 70’s (fully operational today). Just next, in a marvelous park with view of the ancient cemetery of Kerameikos, you will visit the Holocaust Memorial.

Our private tour continues with the visit of the Temple of Zeus & of the Hadrian’s Arch along with the famous Panathenaic Stadium (also known as Kallimarmaron) where the first modern Olympic Games were revived on 1896. Next stop is the Presidential Mansion (ex-Royal Palace) where you will monitor the traditional Change of the Guard. Our car will then climb you to St. George Lycabetus Hill with the best panoramic view of Athens (ideal place for taking photos). While on route of our private tour, you will see important buildings & places such as the National Library, the Academy, the Univercity, the Old Greek Parliament & the Syntagma Square (Parliament building & Tomb of Unknown Soldier). Our next visit is the Hellenic & Roman Agora & we finally reach the famous Plaka. You will be lost in the narrow streets where the spirit of old Athens exists. Our private tour concludes with the return in our starting place. Contact us for further details & info.
