First Day : Our private tour starts with driving towards Viotia Prefecture. We shall pass outside the well known – from ancient times – town of Theves & we reach our first site of the tour, the village of Chaironeia, where on 338 B.C. a crucial battle between the Macedonians of King Philippos II & the alliance of the Greek city-states Athens & Theves, took place. You will admire the famous Lion of Chaironeia, a unique marble funerary monument (5,5 meters high), which marked the communal grave of the Theveans who were died in the battle.
Our tour continues with the visit of the most interesting site of Livadia (the capital of Viotia Prefecture), the park of Kria (means cold in Greek). The area of Kria is a landscape of unique natural beauty & a place for recreation. You will have the opportunity to walk along the Gorge of kria admiring the springs of river Erkina, stone bridges, small waterfalls, canals, gates. An ideal place for having a refreshment or a light lunch.
Our next stop leads you at the Hosios Loukas Monastery located on a picturesque slope on the western foothills of mount Helikon. You will visit one of the most important monuments of Byzantine architecture & art which has been listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. In accordance to historical info, Hosios Loukas monastery was formed as a center for the renaissance of Orthodoxy but also as a shinning beacon for the hellenization of "heathen" people who had settled in Greece. We continue our private adventure with a stop/visit in the traditional village (and also a famous ski resort place) of Arachova, which is located at the foot of mount Parnassus & we end the first day of our tour with our arrival to Delphi. You will walk around this marvelous little town & after having a tasty dinner in a traditional Greek taverna you will spend your night in a charmy family run hotel.
Second Day : In the morning & after having your breakfast, its time to discover "the center of the world" – as it was regarded by the ancients – the famous Sanctuary of Delphi with the worldwide known Oracle. You will wander through the archaeological area admiring the Temple of Apollo, the Treasury of the Athenians, the Polygonal wall, the Treasury of the Siphnians, the Stoa of the Athenians, the ancient theater, the Sacred Way, the ancient Gymnasium, the Castalian Spring, the ancient Stadium & the Tholos of Athena Pronaia. Your knowledge will be complemented with the visit to the archaeological museum where you will follow the history of the most famous ancient oracle & you will admire sculpture, statues & minor objects donated to the sanctuary.
Time for a traditional Greek lunch in the town of Delphi & our private tour continues with driving through the Mount Parnassus. We shall pass via traditional villages such as Gravia and Bralo (just outside of the village we shall have a short stop for admiring – and taking photos – the panoramic view of Maliakos Culf, the city of Lamia) & we finally reach in Thermopylae where the famous battle between the Greeks & the Persians took place in 480 B.C. You will admire the marvelous statue of King of Sparta, Leonidas who with 300 Spartans & 700 Thespians faced numerous Persian forces under the command of King Xerxes A’. It was there that Leonidas told to Xerxes the world famous phrase "Μολών Λαβέ (Molon Labe)" which means "Come & Get It". Finally you will visit the Centre of Historical Information of Thermopylae. Our two days adventure reaches to the end with our returning back to starting point. Contact us for further details & info.
