Tholos of Athena Pronaia - Delphi

Description

First Day : Our private tour starts with driving towards Viotia Prefecture. We shall have a quick stop/visit in the traditional village (and also a famous ski resort place) of Arachova, which is located at the foot of mount Parnassus and we shall then reach to “the center of the world” – as was regarded by the ancients – the famous Sanctuary of Delphi with the worldwide known Oracle. You will wander through the archaeological area admiring the Temple of Apollo, the Treasury of the Athenians, the Polygonal wall, the Treasury of the Siphnians, the Stoa of the Athenians, the ancient theater, the Sacred Way, the ancient Gymnasium, the Castalian Spring, the ancient Stadium and the Tholos of Athena Pronaia. Your knowledge will be complemented with the visit to the archaeological museum where you will follow the history of the most famous ancient oracle and you will admire sculpture, statues and minor objects donated to the sanctuary. Time for a traditional Greek lunch in the town of Delphi and our private tour continues with driving through the Mount Parnassus. We shall pass via traditional villages such as Gravia and Bralo (just outside of the village we shall have a short stop for admiring – and taking photos – the panoramic view of Maliakos Culf and the city of Lamia). After the city of Lamia, we continue with driving via Domokos and in the evening we arrive in Kalampaka which is located just in the shadow of Meteora Rocks (also known as “The Rocks of the God”). Time for dinner and then you will spend your night in a charmy hotel.

Second Day : In the morning and after having your breakfast, we shall “climp” to the imposing rock towers of Meteora with the unique phenomenon to have on their top Orthodox monasteries built since middle ages. The whole complex of the rocks with the monasteries has been listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. You shall have the opportunity to visit and admire some of the most important monasteries (at least three), such as the Monastery of Great Meteoron, the Monastery of Rousanou, the Monastery of Agia Triada (Holy Triniti) , the Varlaam Monastery, the Monastery of Saint Nikolaos Anapafsa and the Monastery of Saint Stephanos. After having lunch we start driving towards north-west Greece and we reach to the famous Metsovo, a Greek authentic traditional village. You will admire the marvelous stone & wood traditional houses. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Averoff Gallery with more than 200 works by 19th & 20th century famous Greek artists. Time for dinner and then you will spend your night in a charmy hotel.

We continue with a long drive back towards Athens. We shall pass via the famous Rio-Antirio Bridge and we shall have a stop/visit to the famous Canal of Corinthos which, through Isthmus, connects the Corinthian Gulf with Saronic Gulf and cuts Peloponnese peninsula from the rest Greek mainland.
