Description

First Day : Our private tour starts with driving via the coastal highway towards Peloponnese. While on route you will see the area of Saronic Gulf where the famous Naval Battle of Salamis took place in 480 B.C. between the Greeks and the Persians. Our first stop/visit is the famous Canal of Corinthos which, through Isthmus, connects the Corinthian Gulf with the Saronic Gulf and cuts Peloponnese peninsula from the rest Greek mainland. We continue our private tour with the Ancient Corinthos. Exploring the archaeological area you will meet the Temple of Apollo (built on a rocky hill), the Theatre, the Roman Odeon, the Glauke fountain into a natural rock and the archaeological Museum. Besides them there is the famous “Vema” (tribunal) from which St. Paul preached to the Corinthians.

 

Our next visit is the famous Mycenae (the Kingdom of King Agamemnon). Amongst others, you will admire the Lions’ Gate, the Cyclopean Walls, the Treasure of Atreus (Agamemnon Grave), the Subterranean Cistern and the Archaeological Museum. After having your lunch in the city of Mycenae, our private tour goes on with the visit to Ancient Epidaurus. You will explore the archaeological area of the Sanctuary of Asklepios, with the famous -for its acoustic – Ancient Theatre and the archaeological museum. We end our first day of the tour with the visit to Nafplio, an old and romantic seaport town which was the first capital of Greece after the Greek Revolution in 1821 until 1834. You will be lost in the picturesque streets of the old town admiring old classical governmental buildings, especially in the Constitution Square. You will enjoy a romantic dinner in the seaport, while attending the famous Bourtzi castle located in the middle of the harbor of Nafplio. Time for rest in a charmy hotel.

Second Day : In the morning, and after having your breakfast, we start driving along the coastal road towards south Peloponnese. We will pass via coastal places of wild nature while admiring the blue scene of the Argolic Gulf. We shall reach to one of the major attractions in Peloponnese, the Byzantine fortress town of Monemvasia (its name derives from the combination of two Greek words and means the only entrance). Monemvasia is a perfectly preserved medieval settlement (connected with the main land via a bridge), with a unique magical atmosphere and still inhabited. While crossing the entrance of the old town you will start a historic journey back through the ages. Castles, walls, old mansions, narrow cobbled lanes, churches, low arches and vaults, coats of arms, imperial thrones, Byzantine icons are some of the unique beauties that you will admire. You will enjoy a marvelous traditional greek lunch in one of the charm tavernas.

You will then visit the Upper town and you will have the opportunity to visit the old church of St. Sophia, built on the edge of the rock. From there you will admire the panoramic view of the Lower town and the open sea picture. In the afternoon we leave the ancient world of Monemvasia and our second day ends with our arrival to the city of Sparti, the capital of Lakonia and birthplace of the King of Spartans Leonidas, where, after dinner, you will spend your night in a charmy hotel.

 

Third Day : In the morning, and after having your breakfast, you will have the opportunity to visit the Sparti sights, such as the Statue of the King Leonidas, the Temple of Artemis, the Archaeological museum and the Olive museum. Our next visit will be to the famous Byzantine Mystras (UNESCO protected site) which is located in a physical fortified hill. You will visit the medieval castle, the fortified settlement with palaces, many churches and monasteries and the Archaeological museum. We shall return to Sparti where you will spend your night.

Fourth Day : In the morning and after having your breakfast we shall proceed with the visit to Diros Caves. You will explore the unique caves by small boats and through narrow passage ways. You will admire some of the most beautiful formations of stalagmites and stalaktites. Leaving back south Peloponnese and driving towards northwest via Messinia we arrive in the world–famous city of Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Time for dinner and then you will spend your night in a charmy hotel.

 

Fifth Day : In the morning, and after having your breakfast, you will visit the unique archaeological area of Ancient Olympia where the first Olympic Games took place on 776 B.C.. Amongst a lot of monuments, you will admire the Temple of Zeus, the Temple of Hera, the Philipeion, the Palestra, the Ancient Stadium, the Ancient Gymnasium, the Prytaneion, the Bouleuterion and the Leonidaion. Your knowledge will be complemented with the visit to the Archaeological Museum, one of the most important museums in Greece with permanent exhibition of findings from the excavations, dating since prehistoric times. Reduced ticket: People over 65 years old from EU member states and children and young people between 6 and 25 years from Non EU countries, upon presentation of ID or Passport.
